day 01
Arrival Colombo
On arrival at Colombo International Airport, you will be greeted by local in country staff, before transferring to Kandy which will take approx. 3.5hrs. Upon arrival at the hotel, there will be time to unpack, rest and freshen up before dinner at the hotel.
day 02
Elephant Freedom Project
After breakfast, the group will transfer to Kegalle to spend a day at the “Elephant Freedom Project”. Students will get the opportunity to take part in several activities including preparing food for the elephants, cleaning their enclosures, walking with them and also washing them in the river. The group will drive back to their hotel in Kandy to freshen up and have dinner. The drive will take approx. 1.5hrs.
day 03
White Water Rafting & Rainforest Hike
Check out from the hotel and transfer to Kithulgala which will take roughly 2hrs. The group will get to experience white water rafting in the Kelani river before having lunch at the plantation. The afternoon will be spent hiking through the Kithulgala Rainforest Reserve. After all the activities, the group will be able to rest on the coach as they are transferred to a hotel in Udawalawe which takes approx. 4hrs.
day 04
School Cultural Exchange & Safari
This morning the group will visit a local school in Embilipitiya to enjoy a cultural exchange with the students including playing games and teaching English. Lunch will be back at the hotel before enjoying a jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park with the opportunity to see elephants, buffalo, deer and if very lucky leopards. Afterwards, there will be an interactive session of traditional Sri Lankan dancing and drumming.
day 05
Tea Plantation & Turtle Hatching
Today the group will be driven to Kosgoda which takes about 4hrs. After checking in at the hotel, there will be a visit to a tea factory and plantation together with a stop off at a local market where there will be chance to test bartering skills. In the evening, the group will visit a conservation centre to learn more about the conservation and protection of sea turtles in particular the importance of hatching to be released into the sea.
day 06
Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Centre
Returning to the turtle conservation centre, the group will spend the day volunteering in many activities. Lunch will be at a local restaurant before continuing volunteer work and returning back to the hotel for the evening.
day 07
Departure
After breakfast and check-out the group will be transferred back to Colombo International Airport to catch their departure flight. If time allows, there could be an opportunity for a city tour and lunch at a local restaurant.
